Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) are graceful creatures and one of the most common native birds found in the North America. Their song sounds like a lament and is one of the most recognizable. I remember sitting in my backyard as a child listening to them call and trying to mimic them. You will see Mourning Doves pecking seed on the ground (or at your feeders) and are easily frightened, often trilling as they fly off.
